00:01 In this video I'm going to show you how you can get a general idea of the search volume for a keyword phrase on YouTube, although there is no way anybody can tell you the EXACT number of searches a keyword phrase gets on YouTube, simply because this information is owned and controlled 100% by Google and they are not going to give this information out to anybody, with the exception of shorter tail keyword information in the Google Adwords members area, but that information will be for Google searches, not YouTube. Don't believe everything you read online about getting the exact number of searches for keyword phrases on YouTube because there is no shortage of people who will tell you what you want to hear in exchange for money.
00:33 You can get a general idea of keyword search volume on YouTube and the way you do that is go to YouTube and in the YouTube search box type in the keyword phrase you are thinking of targeting for your YouTube video upload. Look at the top videos that appear in YouTube search results, the first 20 results. Take note of the number of views for each of the top 20 videos. Also take note of how long ago the video was posted. If you divide the total number of views by the number of days the video has been on YouTube, you will get the average number of views per day that video is getting on YouTube. Keep in mind you should take the number of views with a grain of salt because you don't know how much of the video view is the result of honest Google and YouTube search traffic and how many of the views are purchased via advertising or some other means. That is why you should examine all top 20 results on YouTube for a keyword phrase.
01:04 If you're using the software program Viral YouTube Soft, the program actually calculates for you the number of average views per day, in a matter of seconds, for the top 20 videos on YouTube (for any keyword phrase you enter). This way you don't have to bother with the math yourself and you can get a good birds-eye view of the results of a keyword phrase but you can do this manually if you wish.

The first thing you want to notice, when using longer tail keyword phrases (5 words or more) is the relevance of the video being shown because even if there are no videos that are relevant for your keyword phrase, YouTube is going to show you something. If you don't see any videos that are very relevant for your long tail keyword, this is great news because it means if your video is highly relevant for the keyword phrase and you make sure to use a good, SEO rich YouTube video description containing your long tail keyword phrase, your video is most likely going to appear at the top and get most of the action. Once again, take note of the top video results for your long tail keyword phrase. Divide total views by number of days video has been active for an average daily number of video views.
02:26 One thing that can screw the accuracy of the number of YouTube video views is that some people on YouTube, when they do YouTube marketing, they purchase fake views on sites like fiverr.com thinking they can fool YouTube into believing the video is more popular than it really is. It is an attempt to get YouTube to make the video show more frequently in search results however I do NOT recommend you do this for your video upload because YouTube is no longer stupid and they are going to know if views are fake. For example, for $5 or $10 you can purchase 2,000 views to your YouTube video. There are many other YouTube gigs like this on fiverr.com, although it seems like fiverr is beginning to remove these lower quality gigs from its website. Any of the video uploaders who are doing something like this, this is obviously going to corrupt the accuracy of the video views.
02:52 Just as a test, type in some ridiculous long tail keyword phrase into the YouTube search, a keyword that nobody is actually ever type into YouTube like how to paint a tin can green at night. You should notice that all of the video results are not very relevant to the keyword phrase you entered into the YouTube search box. Also, as you notice the video views, the numbers are much lower. The point here is just like with marketing on the internet in general, go for the longer tail keyword phrases so you don't have much competition.
