It kind of seems to me that if a video you upload gets a lot of traffic or not is more random than anything. I see there are some videos that have really crappy or no descriptions whatsoever, really horrible video SEO and the video gets like a million hits in a few months and then there are videos that should get an A+ for how well the title, description and tags are utilized and the video struggles to get 5 visitors a day. Is my observation accurate or am I doing something wrong?
No Jeff, to a large extent, what you are saying it totally true. Of course it is tough to trust the numbers of visitors to a video because lots of people pay for fake visitors and video hits and whatnot so it is really hard to know for sure how much traffic a video really gets. I think the most important thing you can do that you DO have control over is really provide good videos and really useful links in your descriptions. Use YouTube as sort of a springboard to get these YouTube to start visiting your online properties/websites. Also consider some of these video with crazy visitor count may be paying for YouTube advertising. We have done that once in a blue moon and it really jacks up the view count. Just concentrate on making the best possible content for people and don't worry too much about how seemingly well or not so well other YouTube channels or websites are doing. This kind of fixation can really drive you crazy.
